The IICTG committee members will conduct an Intelligent Construction Technologies (ICT) and Intelligent Compaction (IC) workshop at the International Conference on Transportation Infrastructure and Materials (ICTIM) 2017 Conference, June 9th to 12th, in Qingdao, China.
The ICT/IC workshop will be conducted on June 9th. The speakers include:
The IICTG 2017 conference will be held at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA from September 26 to 28, 2017. The theme for IICTG 2017 is “ICT (Intelligent Construction Technologies) – Past and Future”. The online registration is now open!
The conference will cover all aspects of ICT topics for infrastructure construction, including: integrated Intelligent Construction solutions, Intelligent Compaction (IC), Paver-Mounted Thermal Profiling (PMTP), Continuous Asphalt Density Measurement, 3D modeling and Automated Machine Guidance (AMG), and etc. along with research/implementation/case studies and panel discussions with ICT experts and leading agencies around the world. There will also be workshops on Intelligent Construction Data Manage with Veta (computer hands-on) workshop and CIM (Civil Integrated Management)/VDC (Virtual Design & Construction) workshop. Check out the agenda for further details.
About IICTG
The International Intelligent Construction Technologies Group (IICTG) is a source for knowledge and information on intelligent construction technologies for public agencies, contractors, consultants, academia, and other relevant industries.
IICTG provides a forum for the dissemination of knowledge concerning the collection, analysis, and application of information relating to intelligent construction technologies (ICT).
ICT consists of real time quality monitoring and process control during construction of foundation and pavements for highways, airports, railroads, dams, cities, and ports. ICT involves construction equipment technologies such as pavers, rollers, and other devices.
ICT also makes use state-of-the-art technologies such as Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), automated testing/monitoring (e.g., Intelligent Compaction), 3D designs/modeling, automated machine guidance (AMG), Cloud computing, Civil Integrated Management (CIM) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), etc. The goals of ICT are to improve quality control and acceptance of constructions as well as reducing life-cycle cost of the above mentioned assets.
Please visit the IICTG webpage for further information (www.IICTG.org).
On April 12, 2017, China Ministry of Transport issued the first People’s Republic of China transport industry standards for soils subgrade IC specifications for highway construction. The Chinese title is “公路路基填筑工程连续压实控制系统技术条件》(JT/T 1127-2017” with the official English title as “Technical condition for continuous compaction control system of fill engineering of subgrade for highway”. The starting date to implement this standard is August 1st, 2017. The team lead for developing this standard is the Treasurer and Secretary of IICTG (International Intelligent Construction Technologies Group), Prof. Guanghui Xu of Chinese Southwestern University.
The contents and requirements of this standard is consistent with the Chinese Soils IC specification for highspeed rail road bed construction that was implemented since June 1st, 2015. The key features are as follows:
It is expected the IC implementation for highspeed rail bed and highway soils subgrade construction will be accelerated in China in the near future. The asphalt IC implementation is expected soon, too.

We’ve updated the list of IC and paver-mounted thermal profile projects in the US.
Dr. George K. Chang of the Transtec Group (President of IICTG, ProVAL/Veta developer/trainer), has made the following two presentations at the 103rd Purdue Road School. Click the following links to download the presentation files:
There will be a presentation on intelligent compaction and infrared bar/scanner during the New Technologies in Asphalt Paving session (#W11
Wed. March 8| 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM | Westgate – Pavilion 10) during CONEXPO 2017.
Tim Kowalski of Wirtgen America, also a Technical Committee member of IICTG, will be one of the speakers.
An IC workshop will be offered at the OAPA’s 2017 Asphalt Conference, Norman, OK, USA. Dr. George K. Chang, Director of Research, Transtec Group, USA, president of IICTG will conduct the workshop. The deadline for registration is Friday, February 17, 2017.
The workshop will be full day on Tuesday, Feb. 28 under Track 1- Construction – Veta. All attendees need to register for the conference.
The workshop attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their laptop computers for hands-on exercises using the Veta software, The workshop will include in-depth learning about intelligent compaction and paver-mounted infrared thermal profiles.
The workshop attendees need to download the Veta Workshop software (includes sample files) and pre-install it on their laptops. The followings are the system requirements and installation instructions.
Veta 4.x is supported on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 SP1 or later. Microsoft .NET 4.5.2 is required. If you do not have the required version of .NET installed, the Veta installation will download and install it.
Veta will run with 4 GB of RAM, but we recommend 8 GB. If you expect to work with very large projects, the more RAM the better.
You must have sufficient privileges to install applications on your computer. If you receive an error message during the installation, ask your administrator to install the software for you. If your administrator is also unable to install the software, then please contact us.
