VetaCenter

Material Delivery Management System (E-Ticketing) and Web-Conversion of Intelligent Construction Data Management System

Status: July 2026 to June 2027

Background

This VetaCenter project, including MDMS-Phase III, Veta Web-Phase IV, and additional tasks for integration with AASHTOWare (AWP) and Trimble, envisions a future where MnDOT, partner agencies, and industry stakeholders seamlessly integrate ICT data to deliver high-quality, sustainable infrastructure that enhances safety, reduces costs, and ensures equitable access for all communities. By advancing Veta and digital construction tools, we empower customers—agencies, contractors, and commuters—with efficient, transparent, and resilient infrastructure solutions.

Project Objective

This VetaCenter project supports an initiative to modernize construction management by enhancing Veta, a nationally recognized intelligent construction technology platform developed by MnDOT and supported through various transportation pooled funds. This project will add features to the Material Delivery Management System (including E-Ticketing) and advance Veta’s transition from a desktop application to an AASHTO-standard, cloud-based, interoperable platform.

The VetaCenter project will implement a hybrid solution combining advanced technology upgrades with business process improvements to transform MnDOT’s construction management system (CMS) into an interoperable, efficient, and equitable framework. This solution leverages enhancements to the Veta software and intelligent construction technologies (ICTs) to deliver safer, more sustainable infrastructure while aligning with MnDOT’s mission and the One Minnesota Plan’s priorities of safety, equity, sustainability, and workforce development. ICTs currently include the Material Delivery Management System (MDMS), Paver-mounted thermal profiling (PMTP), Intelligent Compaction (IC), and the Dielectric Profiling System (DPS), and will include additional innovative construction technologies in the future.  By integrating technology and process changes, MDMS-Web addresses the critical need for real-time data access, standardized workflows, and inclusive practices, achieving the desired future state of optimized construction processes and improved project outcomes.

Project Tasks

This VetaCenter project’s scope includes the software upgrades to:

  • Enhance the MDMS user interface (i.e., MDMS Phase III),
  • Convert Veta desktop modules to a web-based platform and further IC/PMTP enhancements (i.e., Veta Web Phase IV), and
  • Include integration of construction technologies with AASHTOWare (AWP) and Trimble.
