New Website: Introducing www.IntelligentConstruction.com

In effort to encompass the broadened range of Intelligent Construction Technologies (ICT), www.IntelligentConstruction.com is now www.IntelligentConstruction.com.

The mission of the new website is to promote the applications of ICT to the life cycle of infrastructure—from survey, design, construction, operation, and maintenance/rehabilitation—by adapting to changes of environments and minimizing risks. The website will include information about current and emerging intelligent construction technologies for the life cycle of infrastructure, including intelligent sensing, data analysis, decision-making, and execution.

Users can still download Veta software for free at www.IntelligentConstruction.com/veta. Veta is a map-based tool for viewing and analyzing geospatial data. The software can import data from various intelligent compaction (IC) machines and paver-mounted thermal profilers (PMTP) to perform viewing, filtering, sublotting, spot test imports, and analysis. Veta displays compaction information in easy-to-read formats, including graphs and maps.

Information on the website and Veta/ICT technical support is provided by The Transtec Group, a pavement engineering firm with over 12 years of experience working with ICT—the most extensive in the industry. For support, visit the Intelligent Construction Technical Support Center.

New NRRA Research on Intelligent Compaction Measurement Values (ICMV)

Evaluation of Levels 3-4 Intelligent Compaction Measurement Values (ICMV) for Soils Subgrade and Aggregate Subbase Compaction

The National Road Research Alliance (NRRA) has just funded research project “Evaluation of Levels 3-4 Intelligent Compaction Measurement Values (ICMV) for Soils Subgrade and Aggregate Subbase Compaction.” Dr. George K. Chang of The Transtec Group (also President of ISIC) and Prof. Soheil Nazarian of UTEP (also Executive Committee member of ISIC, www.ISIC.org) will lead this research project.

The goals of this research are to evaluate Level 3-4 ICMV systems against Level 1-2 ICMV systems for soils and base compaction, and develop a blue print for future certification procedures of IC. The final deliverable is expected to be by the end of 2020. Further information can be found on this NRRA webpage.

Free Webinar on Intelligent Compaction by ARRB and The Transtec Group

Free Webinar on Intelligent Compaction by ARRB and The Transtec Group

As a part of the Australian NACOE research efforts om Intelligent Compaction (IC), ARRB and The Transtec Group will conduct a free webinar on IC and the summary for the IC workshop and field demo held in SW Queensland, Brisbane, Australia from June 3-4, 2019. The webinar will be held on Jul 02, 2019 at 12:00 PM AEST (Australian eastern time zone). The registration link is here. The followings are further details.

NACOE – Introduction to Intelligent Compaction (IC)

Join us for a webinar on Jul 02, 2019 at 12:00 PM AEST.

Compaction is one of the most important processes in roadway construction. It is necessary in order to attain high quality and uniformity of pavement materials, which in turn better ensure long-lasting performance. In this webinar, the presenters will introduce Intelligent Compaction (IC), which refers to the compaction of road materials, such as soils, aggregate bases, or asphalt pavement materials, using modern vibratory rollers equipped with an integrated measurement system, an onboard computer reporting system, GPS based mapping, and optional feedback control. IC rollers facilitate real-time compaction monitoring and timely adjustments to the compaction process by integrating measurement, documentation, and control systems. IC rollers also maintain a continuous record of color-coded plots, allowing the user to view plots of the precise location of the roller, the number of roller passes, and material stiffness measurements.

Our two presenters are Dr. George K. Chang, P.E., Director of Research, The Transtec Group, USA (also President of International Society for Intelligent Construction – www.IS-IC.org) and Dr. Jeffrey Lee, Ph.D., CPEng, F.IEAust Principal Engineer, Australian Road Research Board.

This is part of the NACOE P105 project which looks into the implementation of the IC technology. Results from a recent field demonstration conducted in June 2019 will also be presented.

Participants please note – the session will commence at 12 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). There may be time zone differences that apply. It is recommended that you connect to the webinar 15 minutes prior to allow sufficient time for potential connection delays.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

IICTG (now ISIC) 2019 Conference a Big Success

IICTG 2019 Conference

The 2nd International Intelligent Construction Technology Conference (IICTG) was a big success from April 16 to 17, 2019. The conference was held in Beijing, China after the first conference in Minnesota, USA in 2017. There were about 300 attendees for the 2019 conference, topping the one in 2017, pushing the momentum for intelligent construction to a higher level.

During this conference, the IICTG committee has made a very important decision to rename IICTG as ISIC – International Society for Intelligent Construction. The Chinese translation is “国际智能建设学会”. With this new name and broaden scope, ISIC will provide the unique platform for the intelligent constructions for decades to come!

Download the conference brochure for a glimpse at the conference agenda, presentations, etc. Further details about the conference contents, presentation summaries, technical panel discussions, and committee meeting will be posted on the IICTG website www.IICTG.org (soon be updated to www.IS-IC.org ).
